We believe in the literal indwelling Spirit of God in the lives of believers. When we receive God’s Holy Spirit the literal Power, Spirit, and Emotion of God becomes manifested in our lives. In short: God’s Holy Spirit is how the literal Spirit of God speaks, inspires, and works within believers here on Earth (John 14:26, 16:12-13; and I John 2:27). Also, God reveals by His Spirit (I Corinthians 2:10-12) and our sufficiency is of God through God’s Spirit (II Corinthians 3:4-5).
We believe in an active prayer life that includes groaning and utterings, speaking in tongues, and intercessory prayer/Lamenting before God as also witnessed and experienced by the early believers in the books of Acts and as Paul wrote about in I Corinthians 14:8, 39.
Devoting ourselves to a life of prayer allows for the gifts of the Spirit to be manifested in our lives and allows us to be of service to God through gentle promptings and guidance by God’s Holy Spirit. As we lament, we become like Jeremiah (the weeping prophet), and we move further and further away from selfishness and greed to lives that break wide-open for the suffering in our city and for the billions hurting in the world.
Again, we do not believe the Holy Spirit of God to be the third person in a trinity. Instead, we believe that the Holy Spirit is literally the essence and energy of the invisible God made alive in the hearts of born-again believers, and His name is Jesus.
